Deaf Awareness Course

Did you know that 1 in 5 people in the UK are either Deaf or hard of hearing? I provide Deaf Awareness training because, if your workplace or community service is aware of the issues around deafness and simple strategies, you will be equipped to avoid miscommunications or even communication breakdowns.

While I offer a Deaf Awareness course that suits anyone, I am more than happy to offer you a bespoke course tailored to your specific needs or your workplace.

About the Deaf Awareness course

Many people feel that having benefited from Deaf Awareness training, they as staff are more confident in knowing how to best facilitate a conversation when they meet someone Deaf or hard of hearing which is quite positive and inclusive.

This encourages people to feel more effective in their day to day practice and feel less challenged by barriers to communication. Research shows that people are far more likely to use your company or provision if you have Deaf Awareness certification.

  • You will be provided with a trainer who is Deaf themselves and this will enable you to draw on their experiences.
  • The training looks at statistics in the UK and also the many types of deafness and using the relevant terminology.
  • It explores lipreading and other strategies used by the Deaf community as well as providing a tool kit, such as some basic British Sign Language vocabulary, to enable your staff to express themselves in simple terms.
  • Being aware of how to welcome someone to your venue.
  • Asking them their name and expressing courtesy has a huge impact on deaf people who may avail themselves of your facility.
  • This course can be entirely tailored to meet your individual potential requirements.
